The change of season, its our harvesting time. From Yang to Yin. By N A Bayat

As the days start to cool and the air starts to dry, somewhat we begin to notice a change that is creeping up within ourselves. If you have been journeying along the path of holistic wellbeing with the Centre of holistic excellence, you will be well aware that just as the Moon has its effects so does the change of season.

The beautiful orange and yellow leaves start to boast their beauty as we walk along the pathways paved with fallen leaves. The seasons are changing and so are we.

As our bodies start to adapt, as they should be, to the approaching cooling months, we tend to feel a sudden dryness appearing, either as thirst or as dry skin.

The warmth if the summer accounted for the affluent Yang/heat within our bodies, where the FIRE element was in its peak. The imbalance of which showed up as psoriasis or circulation disorders.
As we move to the peak of Metal, which is embraced in the Autumn season, the lung and large intestine become the reflection of our inner well being.

With our large intestine ridding the body of toxic waste and the lungs absorbing the purity of the much needed fresh air.

This is the time to start harvesting the fruit of what was sowed in the wet warmer months. This is the time to preserve and store away for the cool darker winter days.

As we see and remember our own childhood days of playing the fallen leaves, as adults we find ourselves instead being more serious and less relaxed around this time of year.

As the momentum of growth decreases, start planning and gathering energy for the months ahead.

The best ways to do so is first start breathing. Deep breathing strengthens the lungs which in turn strengthens the protective qudra/Qi of the body. This will improve the immune system and resist the pathogens that enter through cold and wind invasion.

Walking barefooted outside on the still green grass, soaking in the warmth of the nurturing sun and feasting your eyes on the changing colours of nature, will boost your immunity and feed the root system of your inner being.
A stronger root system will bring bountiful rewards in resisting the cold winter months. It will be defensive against common colds and flu, sinusitis and those prone to infections.

During autumn, eat less cooling foods (like salads and raw foods). Heartier soups and stews are better at this time of the year. You should also try to include more sweet potato, cabbage, pears, walnuts, rice, cinnamon, leeks, beans, asparagus, broccoli, greens, apples, plums, grapes as well as moderate amounts of pungent foods like garlic, onions, ginger, horseradish and mustard into your diet as they are also beneficial to the lungs.

An imbalance in the lung and large intestine could mean a person becoming more Stubborn, depressed, isolated or feeling unfulfilled.

Sleeping a little extra, relaxation, introspection and stretching will bring beneficial healthy changes to your body.

So lets embrace this change gracefully. Become one with our changing surroundings and grow with each day.

If you are prone to constipation, holding on to negative pasts, having a rebellious Qudra/Qi, meaning a rising Qudra, acupuncture and emotional healing sessions will be highly recommended.

If the yin deficiency is starting to show, eat the above-mentioned foods.

Understandimg your body means a healthier body.
